Diana Navarro renouned flamenco artist appearing in La linea

Diana Navarro in concert in La linea de la concepcion at the Palace de congresos which is next to the Iberostar Hotel overlooking the site of the new marina.

Diana Navarro is from the province of Andalucia, in Spain — the birthplace of flamenco. Her debut album, released in 2005, sold 250,000 copies (12 times as much as what the average flamenco album sells) and got her a Latin Grammy nomination.

But it turns out that Navarro doesn't really sing flamenco — or not just flamenco. She's part of a new generation of artists who are transforming Spain's most traditional music.

The History of La linea

The coastal town of La Línea de la Concepcion - more commonly known simply as La Línea (meaning boundary line' in Spanish) separating Spain from Gibraltar and secondly from the Immaculate Conception of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. The local people are called linenses.

Many of the over 60,000 residents of La Línea work in Gibraltar, travelling between the two each day. Some Gibraltarians have jobs on the mainland work this system in reverse so there is a great deal of socialising between the two territories.

In recent year La Línea has become popular both as a permanent residence and also as a tourist destination. The nearby area of Alcaidesa combines great golf courses and residential development. When linked to the many improvements made within La Línea itself, there are many reasons why the area is attracting so many people.

Gibraltar relies on La Línea for the supply of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and fish as well as many other products. There is also an important Spanish military presence in La Línea and some interesting fortifications to visit. La Línea has a pretty port area and two beaches along the seafront. The beaches are called Playa de Santa Barbara and Playa de Levante.
